Keeping Fish in Office (air-conditioned)

Hi guys,

Wondering if you have any advice on what durable species to keep in a cool environment of around 24 degrees. Seems like the air-conditioning in my office is real good and some fishes which I have kept have so far, ermmm succumbed to the slightly colder climate (namely black ghost knife, tiger goby, rams).

Hi there!

I've got cherry shrimps and B. Briggittae in my office. Water's very cold. Dunno what the temperature but I gotta wear my coat sometimes. Guess its about aclimatising the fauna when you get them back from the LFS before introducing them into the tank. I float the bags for an hour half before slowly putting some tank water into the bag and eventually releasing the fish / shrimps into the tank (which is fully cycled). No deaths so far.

looloo, at those temperatures you should try White Cloud Mountain Minnows. Very durable fish and they love cool temperatures too.

One question, is this temperature a constant for 24 hours each day? If the air-conditioning is not turned on during the night the fish will not be able to acclimatise to the changes in temperature and that might be a factor in causing their deaths.

Well, perhaps that is the problem... winter from morning to evening, then summer from late evening onwards + weekends.

Darn, will experiment with shrimps and see how things go then : )

My office temperature can range from 19 to 24 degrees. (!) They usually keep the temperature on the lower side as it is centrally controlled and being on the upper most floor, we get the lowest temperature. We were told that the offices/labs downstairs need the low temperatures wor...

Anyway, I am keeping 2 bettas and they have been around in this office for 1.5yrs and are doing fine. I keep alot of terrestrial plants (their roots in the tank water) with them and keep them under a florescent lamp. Maybe the plants and lamps keep them warm... But the water is rather cool...

One of my colleagues tried keeping some neons but they all died... I have yet to try anything else rather than the bettas as I don't want to install air pumps... Why don't you try bettas?
