Yes... most of the time... its palustris... It wont be accurate to identify the plant when submerged... and the best way to do it is to look at the flowers... the emersed plant also looks similar...
okay..i've seen this quite a bit..many people post here selling this plant and name it as hottonia inflata...but isnt i supposed to be hottonia palustris??
doesn't inflata have sharper leaves and spongy like tops??
pls correct me if i'm wrong... if so are the flowers the only way to tell these 2 plants apart?? once being white and the other a violet like colour?

I think its palustris also, but its impossible to tell. searching the web gives only the emerse form
hmm...okay..i guess the onyl way is when its emersed then... the reason i was asking is cos i thought that i had different plants growing at the same patch.. but they look soooo similar.. so they are different in no other way suubmersed?? is one ususally bigger and grow taller than the other?? leaf morphology?? or is that variable in he plants as well??
H inflata is very rare in the hobby.
It's native to the Eastern USA.
You have H. palustris 99.9%.

wonder in chinese there's dif?
shue hwa chow one and the other?
i always thought i had the inflatas. a misnomer because some taiwan poster.., well, as long it looks similar...mine never gets to the top, i keep it as mid level fellas cause i don't like the papery white leaves at bottom not getting light...
so i have never seen the flowers.![]()
