Try giving tiger barbs a try for your tank setup. Quite the kind for tiger barbs too if I may say so too.

White cloud mountain minnow got a lot. Go to Marine Parade Central, don't go to Sam Yick, there is another fish shop down there across the carpark, I think I saw WCMM there, or else, go to the 7-eleven side, also got WCMM. Looks fine, 50 cents per piece I believe...

Your tank 3ft right? Discus can lah, my tank 3ft I keep 6 inside there, no problem... yet, partly cause they are the only fishes in there.

    binbeto,

nice setup. I love your balansae, my fav!. I got a empty 3 ft tank and I am thinking of filling the back with all Balansae.

btw, do you have algae growing on your nana's leaves? I mean how you prevent them from colonizing on the leaves...

Dun like tiger barb... very naughty type of fish...:P

Btw, those interested in tiger barb can catch free at P.ubin. Used to catch them when I am young. No sure if they are still there...

Discus will sure feel cramped in my tank lah.. Not much swimming space for them.

    Thanks.

Spotted algae do grow on the nana's leaves as well as on the balanse's leaves...

Normally, I just ignore it. will cut off the whole leaf if there is too much algae. New shoot will grow.

Looking at my 3 side of the tank, you know I have a high tolerance for spot algae.

Plenty tiger barbs in the canal around Yio Chu Kang, Spring Leaf Gardens, etc. All you need is string, chicken liver, and a large net

Tiger barbs are really greedy little buggers, the easiest way to catch them is this:
    • get fresh chicken liver, tie to string so that you're able to dangle it 6-inches below the surface of the water.
    • go to canal, find a good spot, dip chicken liver ala tea-bag
    • tiger barbs gather around and nibble at liver in feeding frenzy
    • put large net under liver, tiger barbs don't give a defecation
    • at the right moment (ie lots of barbs around the liver), scoop the net upwards... feeding time for arowana

hwchoy, when is your next tiger barb fishing trip, huh? how about a demo session?[]

a friend used to do that at seletar reservoir years back. police came and took everything - pails, nets, i/c numbers and fishermen to free car ride. got off with a warning.[]

RYAN! are you... are you... don't tell me... 18 years ago... my son... OH sorry, wrong cantonese movie kekekeke

Hey, so many tiger barb maniac meh?

BFG, my friend use this method to raise his arowana to 2.5ft big and it joined the commando... jumped out without a parachute

Long time never go tiger barbing already, but last year I drove past Springleaf Garden area and still see the canal there, I suppose there should still be fish. The reason I like the place is that it is just a monsoon canal which means you can stand at the water edge and dangle the liver. In those big canals with the sloping walls it is quite a hassle to get down and not so easy to reach the water for scooping.

Maybe can consider organising a trip, had always wanted to bring my kids for "fishing adventure"...

BTW, any body want to try should prepare 2 livers, you'd be surprised how fast the liver disappears, like I said, greedy little buggers.

so u have tried that canal before right?
oh well... i must go there soon man... just lost a canal behind my house... was like a natural stream covered by trees in the middle on a grassy field... one end of the stream can be seen beside the cte going towards amk ave 3 onwards from yio chu kang road... u drive past the field and if u look close enough u can see WATER... there use to be common barbs(real pretty fish) in there as well as common guppies and mollies... oh and tilapias in there... now its been destroyed and turned into a normal monsoon drain... sigh...
