I've got a DIY cooling fan set-up and I'm wondering if 2 fans would be too much for a 1ft cube, or could I get away with just 1 fan? The tank will not be placed in an air-conditioned area... Anybody got any experience with this?

1 PC fan is just about right, 2 fans can be a little too much.

It depends on the ambient temperature too.
However, I would advise you to put your priority on safety first (making sure all attach fans can be secure tightly, and not drop off with a slightest touch). Put two if space allow, leaving ample space for feeding and simple maintainance. The main difference between the two might be less than a degree celcius but many times more water you need to top up.

You probably have to top up the water very often.
Actually I don't see a need to have 2 operating fans on 1 tank. I rather have 2 operating tanks then.
    Cheers,

Ambient temps should be what you'd get in a normal day... 30-32 degrees...
No worries about safety. I've got a custom tank top and stand being made and the top's made so that I've got a pretty stable base to support the fan(s).
DIYed the fan using some steel rods I bought from Daiso. I cut the rods to fit nicely into my tank top and I'm using some suction cups to cut down on the noise and hold the fan in place.
Here's the stand and top for the aquarium.

(Feel free to use this if any of you decide to make a simple DIY cube stand)
The top is the one on the left. The DIY fan will sit inside nicely...

Hi brianclaw I suggest you to get a clip or something more reliable to hold down your fan. Previously I was using suction cups to hold my fan but after some time when i forgot to wet it periodically it actually fell into my 4 footer
    Best Regards
