Worms

Hey all, i seem to be having these white coloured worms in my shrimp tank. At first i tot they were those tt start to infest tanks when there is too much left over food....bt apparently, these worms seem to b turning brown....somewhat like tubifex worms....is it possible tt i haf somehow managed to cultivate tubifex worms?? Do cherries eat tubifex worms?? Hmm...help me someone!! I'm confused!!

This is what I want to achieve ultimately . A self-sustaining colony of tubiflex worms, in my planted, to feed my fish. I just need to change water and fertilize my tank. Workable imo! Trying.

BTW, I'm not sure if you require a queen worm or something Going to search how to breed worms now.

Tubifex culture is not possible in an artificial environment unless you can re-create a flow-through system. Its not easy and can get pretty stinky. You need to get the diet and the filtration system right.

Though in some cases the tubifex worms do get established in the gravel bed of a fish tank, very seldom do they survive in the long term.

Arc, those worms are probably the normal white worms. They turn brown at times too. No worries about those. I'd ignore them and continue with regular water changes and a reduction in the quantity of food and frequency of feeding.

Loup, there's nothing to freak out about. They're relatively harmless, unless of course those worms are something you can't handle.

I some how managed to establish a population of tubifex worms in my hermit tank... They had been there for a couple of months already... Keeping a couple of darios in the water and hopefully the resident live food will be able to keep them well fed and alive... *Crossing fingers now*...
