Get a extension cable lo...
Get a extension cable lo...
LOLIf I'd wanted to do that I would have. But since I am an ******* when it comes to aesthetics... and i want my room to look nice... Anyone else know? And no i cannot move the tank closer to the powerpoint. And the powerpoint is already on an extension plug.
Get an electrician to have another powerpoint setup...
That's what I am going to do soon... I am having the same problem too...

Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...
Setup a new electrical point![]()
Or if you want to be DIY, you could try removing the plug, exposing the wires and join it up to another length of wire. Tape the joined parts or cover with proper electrical wiring stuff. The extra length of wire can be easily wired to a 3-pin plug then. Note: I'm no electrical person. Just a suggestion, try at own risk)
I am your soon to be electrocuted guinnea pig it seems...![]()
Can use a heat shrink to cover up the connector. Heat shrink is a like rubber coating that will shrink upon heat is applied. Helps to cover up the exposed live wire....
If not, diy your own extension cable. Buy the required wire length and connect to the extension outlet....
You could also rig up a makeshift extension point using that extension cable. Just painstakingly tape the wiring to the walls neatly...![]()
Turn off your main circuit breakers in the house then work with the wires safely. Should have no current in the system then. Use a test-pen to be sure. Extending the wires is easy if you know how to strip and attach them together. I think one learns this during Secondary school Science classes..
You can easily buy a multiple-powerpoint with a 5m or more wire attached to a plug and plug it into your nearest powerpoint. Using that 5m wire just drag the multi-powerpoint set all the way to your required point. I use this method at home. No problems. You don't need to re-wire anything at all.![]()
And best of all - no electrocuted "guinea pig"![]()
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
make sure that you connect wires of the same colours together. don't mix.
green/yellow is used for ground, blue is used for neutral and brown is used for live.

Thanks guys. But let me be more clear with the problem. I've already connected a multipoint extension to the existing socket, run it along the wall and to the base of my tank. Problem is, it's 2m from the powerpoint to the filter and I can't move the extension any closer cos that space is where I'm going to be hanging some other things.
So I'm going to just buy a wire, remove the plug from the filter, strip both ends of the wire and then attach the new length of wire to it right?
Actually, why not buy a 5m (or longer) extension and then replace the 2m one with the new longer one? IMO, it is too dangerous to DIY these kind of stuff...Be careful and good luck!...

How about asking an electrician to add another power point near the tank?

Ditto that with my earlier suggestion... MUCH safer... Dun play with electricity!...
