Anyone know what barb this is??

got some from gratiola...they say glass barb but...really...dont think it is..
whats the scientific name??

It's still a species in the cyprinid family, to which barbs, rasboras, danios, carp, goldfish and many others belong. Barbs is simply a term once used for those fishes loosely classified under the genera Barbus/Puntius. Nowadays, the so-called 'tiger barbs' (tetrazona, pentazona, hexazona, etc) are classified as Systomus based on their shared traits (and common descent). Eirmotus octozona is really just another 'barb', just that it is thought to be less closely related to the other 'tiger barbs'.

anyway budak is right, barb is a catch all name for small cyprinids. they don't have to be from the genus Puntius which is a longkang genus anyway.

actually i used the term loosely...i just wanted a tank with only barbus/putius in it.. but i guess..i may make just one exception..lol

Eirmotus octozona is a good cyprinid/ barb to have in the tank, however they're a little fragile. At least in my experience with them. Keep them happy with live foods and they'll be fine. Daphnia gets them crazy.
