it is Betta splendens (missing the "n") plus there's no such thing as "var. siamensis"
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Wow! Nice pix. BTW, are these pictures straight from the camera without any post editting by photshop etc? I'm not refering to cropping or rotation. Just the color, contrast, sharpness and all those techie stuffs. Thx!

Okay, for the techie stuff...I shot raw from my camera and basically did an S-Curve and healing brush to clean off those pesky water particles...S-curve will help improve contrast, etc...That's all I did...

Most of my pictures are cropped and rotated (if necessary) to be parallel to sight. Colors are corrected to compensate for the color temperature of the light and the green tint on the glass.

Floating specks of dirt are removed via cloning or healing brush. All pretty standard stuff, not more than 2 to 3 mins on the average, including resizing and credits.

If you need to spend hours "doing" up the photo, it's not worth it. Easier to re-shoot the picture.

Nice! But is there a reason why its positioned to the right? Near the side glass?

I hope you don't mind this Wynx but I find Benny's shot of his betta a little more appealing.

Well, I too find his more appealing. I don't expect to reach his high standards that soon so keep shooting I have to do.

    Wynx,

You need to give the betta a bit more space. The crop is too tight. Even the viewers feels uncomfortable for the fish.

Don't worry. With personal coaching, you will reach that standard in 8 weeks. Assuming you do 2 shoots a week to fine tune each time.

    Benny,

Will shoot more and see how thing goes...as of this morning, I lost 5 barbs in 2 holding tanks meant for my shoot. Wonder why? I guess I will have to shoot more bettas till I got time to get some new fishes to shoot.

As for the cropping, the pic is almost full frame..but with the betta next to the side glass, I had to crop it away..let me see what PS tricks I can do tonight to get the pic in perspective...

The crop is still too tight. You need to give the fish some space. Otherwise, go for an even tighter crop and show only a portion of the fish. Like a close up of the head for example.

By the way, the color is way off. Too saturated. Your monitor is not calibrated?

If you have an original file online where I can download, I will show you.

need to practice exposure control, hot on the head, under on the tail.
