I have been given a chiller for my 4ft tank. The label at the front says "Freddy" chiller hmmm ... it a blue box with digital buttons to set the tempertures.

I set the chiller to 25 degree and its takes several hours 7hrs or more to reach the required degree ... hmmm I think something is wrong with it, any advise?

can anyone give a price range for best - moderate range??? I read on the thread the expensive ones - what is the price range for 4ft tank? Any trade in ???

    Hello iplant,

Don’t give up yet, when you set your chiller to 25C it probably was the first time that the tank was cooled from its ambient temp which might have been 29 - 30? Which is a large temperature change.

Anyway if you had your lights on eg MH's will make the task harder, plus if your chiller is like mine, when you set it to a desired temp, it actually cools it down down to a temp 0.5 [approx] lower than desired then turns off. Unless you are keeping something special, set your temp at 26.5 and see how that goes.

Lastly make sure your chiller is getting sufficient air flow around it, so that it does not consume its expelled air.

Rupert gave very good comments on your queries.

As for trade in, I don't think may of the shops here do that. But some marine shops might do it. They will resell the other chiller when they recondition it. Usually, they only take in the more establish brands.

The first time I started my chiller, it also took half a day to cool from 32 to 26 degrees. There after, it's about and hour each time.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

I have the same experience using resun 450, chiller hmmm like mad for half a day for my 3 ft tank; almost thought it will break down - but then treat it as a stress test for the chiller, can do a one-to-one swap with the shop if it fails within 7 days - that is the std committment from most LFS.

Iplant, if it takes 7hr to chill your tank, it could be your chiller is not rated for your tank. If you really need to change to another budget chiller, look here-

The lfs is located at Jalan Kayu. Find the address in that forum and get the chiller before it runs out!

Thanks guys, things seems to be running smoother now after i read what you guys have mention here. The time taken to cool the tank is now much shorter.
