Maybe this "dwarf cichlid" will grow to a Luo Han.
I suggest give it to Fei Miao to take care.

    hehe.. no evil intentions.

Benny, by the way, where did you get hold of this little fish?
For a start, its original collection point is from Rio Negro..

I volunteer a 2 ft tank full of java ferns just for it to grow bigger (and corydoras for company).
In a couple of months time, we ID it again?
And Benny, to top it off, I will give you a pair of Super Red Caca since it's your fav dwarf cichlid..

Nope.. the ones at C328 is a Laetacara species.

Benny's fish is a Nannacara Adoketa.

Yes.. very 'fierce' looking fish.. sometime ago, we had this fish in one of our more reputable LFS.. going price was S$600 for a pair of German-bred ones.

Benny's fish was probably taken when its in a 'docile' mood.

how the the fishes in the background like all mati like that?
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Yes. All the otocinclus in the background are running away, despite being bigger in size.

The fish is most likely to be Nannancara adoketa from Brazil. However, this is a very aggressive and territorial fish. Very quick on the attack too. And is an eye eater.

This particular specimen is a male and I don't think I will ever see the ultimate coloration as I don't have a female specimen.

At C328, you can also fine other Nannacara species which are way less than S$600 per pair. If I recall correctly, they had anomala and one other species which I can remember (something like XXXphalus). Perhaps yorky can advise.

    Cheers,

p.s. perhaps I should put it up for bidding since I don't have a pair? Wonder if anyone is interested is such a dull colored oddball.

Went to C328 to have a look.. this one is not a Laetacara species but a Anomalachromis thomasi.
    Apologies for the earlier misID.

And back to Benny's question, the Nannacara Anomala and Nannacara Bimaculata is available at C328 from time to time.

Just got myself some Anomalachromis thomasi and Nannacara anamola last night from C328. Very pretty! But by the time I reach home, looks like a white fish. Need to condition again.

I would love to, but you don't have 10 post yet. So no privileges for Private Messaging.

In any case, you can buy the Anomalachromis thomasi from Cichlids Forever at about S$5 each. Juvenile speciments from C328 about S$2. These are prices marked on the tanks.

For the Super Red, I didn't manage to get it yesterday. But Biotope at Bukit Merah has 2 pairs and they are going for S$40 per pair, as marked on the tanks.

    Hope that helps.

Yorky, you made another misID I think.

The bugger in Benny's image is not an Anomalochromis thomasi (Anomalochromis.. not Anomalachromis). Its something else. Probably a juvenile Laetacara. The head profile fits that of a Laetacara. It could be a Nannacara but its just a WAG.

I know C328 stocks Laetacara curviceps quite regularly so this might be a juvenile of that species or a related form. I've kept curviceps before and managed to spawn them sometime back. They're a beautiful fish and I find them more interesting compared to the Nannacara species.

By the way, there's several more species in that bunch of cichlids that might fit the description of the fish in Benny's image. I just can't figure out which one right now.
    Fish.. Simply Irresistable
    Back to Killies... slowly.
