Actually, you need to give a lot more details. Perhaps a picture of your tank.
For example, if you have minimal filtration, then labyrinth fishes are more suitable, like pygmy gourami, licorice gourami.
If you have adequate plant cover and filtratation, the boraras species should do fine.
If the temperature is relatively cool, you can also add shrimps.
1 ft is relatively large, so you can even consider keeping some smaller cichlids like candidi or checkerboard cichlids.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

well if you are after something small, and subdued to match a planted tank, try the as yet undescribed Danionella sp. from Northeast India, only 10-15mm and super slim

yah mine from eco. about the same lenght as a small boraras but look small due to slimness. a large school will look interesting due to the subdue but sparkly colour.Originally Posted by lorba

About Boraras... if placed in a bigger tank, you can probably see some shoaling. But not much space to see shoaling effect in a 1ft tank.Originally Posted by curahee
I keep Boraras with my Cherry Shrimps in a 1ft cube. So far seem they seem to live quite happily together. The Cherry Shrimps also reproduced.

Thinking to put a 8" cube tank in my office, would this fish survive in air-con room with no filter?
Also would they co-living with Cherry shrimp?
