Hmm... What kind of black spots are they? Is it discoloration, is it some kind of growth? More information would help.

Did you do any changes to the tank recently?

How about a picture to show us what actually happened?

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Additional description on the appearance of the black spots would be useful too. Could you also describe any peculiar fish's behaviour? E.g. hanging close to the surface, hiding away, darting around, flicking or rubbing against some solid objects?

    gold fish with black spots

my gold fish too have developed black spots; gradually starting at the fins and then developing through out the body. The first one died, and another has now started to develop these spots. The first one became very quiet and would hide under plants before he died.

    Hi Marya & jellybean,
Most interesting this black spot mystery, could you get us a picture? If not maybe a more indepth description, i.e sunken or protruding spots, any thing sticking out from them, things like that. It will surely help, maybe I'll learn a thing or 2 myself. Just wondering could the spots be dark red instead of black? It would mean alot of difference. Thanks.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

    Goldfish/black spots

Yes, I too would welcome some urgent advice on this. I have had 3 goldfish in a 60l tank for 4 years with no problem, until 6 months ago when the largest fish developed a large growth on his tail, but showed no other signs of ill health. Then last week one fish became lethargic, rested on the bottom and then died. Now the fish with the growth has a large black spot on the growth - what is it? What can I do?

    Goldfish/black spots

Me again. The fish with the growth and black spot shows no abnormal behaviour - he is very lively and hungry. The spot is definitely black - not dark red. The fish that died had a brownish patch on his head, but no black spot, but was clearly ill and lying on the tank bottom. I removed him from the tank into a smaller tank some days before he died.
