I clear them out. The dead parts produce ammonia, and ammonia gives you algae.

    Hi,
Let me share with you what I do. I hope that some of you can comment also.
I have Hairgrass in the middle and left side of my 4ft tank.
Those in the middle have grown thick, but those at the left side is growing slowly and sparsely.

I trim the ones in the middle by cutting about half the length. The original length is about 3.0"-3.5". I then change water by scooping water from the top. After replenishing water, I clear any remaining cut Hairgrass by using a net to scop them up.

Question: The ones in the middle is getting thicker, how can I "thin" them? Do I have to pull out some of them?

Yes you have to pull them out. Cutting the tips off won't work... they just grow back in my experience.

Hi ms, I dun mind your plants when you are thinning them... If you want to give them away or sell them, do let me know. But I will only be available for pickup at the second week of August...

Let me see if I can take a shot of my middle ground and show you what I have got.

You can have some if I schedule a pruning in the next few weeks.
