Effects Fan method of Cooling Tank.

Notice of the disadvantage of using Fan to cool down the tank is that it introduce more dust and fine particles into the tank surface layer.

Anyone has this problem? And how do you prevent it?

Currently I have a Atman Surface skimmer, but it seems like it needs to work harder than the dust which is being introduce by the fan.

What is the surrounding environment?

I am using fan all the while, the dust probably gathers on the fan, but seldom do i notice a lot of dust particles on the water surface. Clean the fan during your weekly maintenance, should not be troublesome at all.

Is the Atman skimmer working properly?

Using a PC fan, is the most easy and direct way to cool the tank temp and very effective too.

No doubt, the some dusts will be collected at the fan itself (suction side) and just like your house fan. A simple cleaning will solve the problem.

The dust particles got into to tank? it certainly will be but the hardly noticed it (at least in my case).

I have the same problem, there's quite a bit of dust in my tank. Finer filter floss?

That is one of the con of fans but in terms of costs it beats chiller hands down Btw is there any ungrading works @ your place. The source of the dust? maybe?

for me the dust not tat much of a prob. but the evaporation rate =x scary.
but if I dun clean the blade of my fan once in awhile.. its more like black sticky/greasy particles on it then jus dusty.

Dust do hover in the enviroment. Chk ur floor if u dun sweep for 3-4 days... ..... The water surface do hv a film of oil and on some occassion dead bugs. It can't be helped though.

Jus to check wif bro who using Atman skimmer. Can 3338 inlet pipe connect to it? The piping that comes wif the skimmer looks smaller. Need some advice before i purchase 1. Thanks

The problem I have with my fans are - I need to constantly clean them at a period of 3 months or so. Because the efficiency of the fan has gone down due to dust choking up the vents. I am more concerned about the fan than particles flying into the tank. It won't unless you disturb them..

to reduce the dust problem, you can consider adding a filter foam to the fan. you'll need to figure out to attach the filter foam though. you should be able to search for this filter foam (for soldering fume extraction) in sim lim tower.

I think you got to clean up the fan regularly and avoid placing the tank in a dusty corner.

Hi,

For me, there is no problem cos my tank is at my office which is air-conditioned. Temp is always 25 degree.
Maint. is very important cos too much dust collected on the fan will eventually cause the water to get dirty. Unless you use a chiller.
