    Hi Guys,

This question has been wondering in my line of thought for quite sometime and I am not too sure how to go about doing it.

I had purchased HC from Teo farm a few weeks ago, but was unsucessful at converting them to submerge form as they would melt away or simply die off

In what ways/steps should I take to prevent the emersed form of HC to convert to submerge form without going thru melting/dying process?
Is there any special method as to go about planting them?

I do not have any water parameter for the tank which I was previously using to plant the HC
    Regards,
    Izzat

I also have this problem of sustaining the growth of HC. I tried mine in a CO2 enriched tank with high lighting, but the temp was quite high at around 29c. From 1 pot, it became like 1 strand left. Then I just took it out and put it on a sponge, brought it to my office and left the sponge under dripping condensation water from the air-con out in the sun. After weeks, it began to grow tiny emersed leaves back. It looks healthy and so I placed it in my office tank which is cooled at around 25C. Now it seems to be growing well on that sponge. I think it needs cool waters, good CO2, lighting plus very fine substrate for it to stay rooted.

Growing outside in the sun is a different story liao. Anything can grow well under sunlight. Try it in your aquarium with warm waters and then that is something

Not really, I don't use any fan on my tank nowadays and things still grow well as long as I keep up on my CO2 while I do the EI method.

Cold water seem to help things as colder water holds more CO2 along with other gases. If you add CO2, you can easily address that issue at higher temperatures.

Ok, you've got green thumbs. But not everyone is like you. What I've said is targeted at general hobbyist. In a certain extent, I believe in what I've said

If this statement is true, then it explains why cold water do better for plants. Let me think and do a research on this.

    Thanks Peter and Mr Wong

I guess the main thing now is to get good CO2 level + Nutrient level.

How long does it normally take to convert to submerge form with good CO2 level + Nutrients and around 28 +/- degrees C?
For HC to grow at the fastest, I would need 3WPG + good CO2 + good Nutrients? Any other consideration(s)?

Nutrients is easy to address via EI method. Now all that is left is CO2 (main focus) and weekly maintenance. Keep a good watch of the CO2 over the course of a day for stability.

I encounter the same problem with my recent purchase of HC from Teo's.
I'm having 3 bps in my 2ft tank and can actually see the HC bubbling...problem is there are some (30%) that melt or die off but I can also see new shoots growing....

What will the end result be? More dying off or will take some time for the HC to convert...meaning inevitable that they will die off and once converted, will start to grow and cover the tank?

Peter does not have green thumbs..although he is a good grower..lol..

i have HC in my tank also and its doing well... dont really need cold waters..

When i said in the sun i meant the temperature out there is baking...so it proves that it doesn't need cold water to grow... i feel its more of a nutrient light issue..

Panther, I am having a similar experience as you. A lot of them seems to be dying. And bubbling seems to have been reduced as compared to when I just got them.

I am also wondering if this is part of the conversion process or there is some problem.

Don't think light is a issue for me, I am using 72 watt for my 2 feet tank, that should be enough. Maybe it is the nutrient......

Is there any one who have go through the conversion process, maybe he can share what has happened
