    Hi,

    Anyone can share experience how long it took to chiller down your water for the 1st time running Resun Chiller CL450.

    My current tank water vol is 280 liters (4 X 1.5 X 2) running CL450, I try to cool down the water temp from 28 degree to 27 degree but it run more than 40 mins and still running, is it taking more time or might be something wrong with the chiller.

    Besides that, if the gas in chiller running very low or finished but the chiller still running for a short sometime will it spoilt the compressor? the air con uncle told me it will die lor ...

    Sounds perfectly normal. Some factors will influence the time it takes to cool, such as the abient temperture, if your lights are on especially MH’s.

    Plus chillers normally drag down the temperature below your desired temp, for example if you have temp set at 27, then the chiller will have a range in which it starts, such as starting when the temp at 27.4 and switching off at 26.6.

    it took me almost 5 hours to bring down the temp from 28 degree to 25 degree when I first run-in my resun chiller for my 3 ft tank, without the light on.
    so i guess your experience is perfectly normal.

    It took me about 10 mins but I cheated.

    I prefreeze 3 1.5L of water in coke bottles and dump them in while I turn on the chiller.

    PS: tank of mine is a 400L, dont ever try putting 3 freezing bottles into your 1-2 footer.

    If you have sized up the chiller properly, it should only take you about 2-3 hours (first time round) to bring the temp down from 28 to 26 degrees.

    here is the report, 1st time cool down from 29 to 26 take 5 hrs ++ and followed by every 30-40 mins than chill again from 28-26 and took about 30 mins .... wow like that than my monthly bill cost a boom.

    I think something wrong with the chiller, maybe the motor no so powerful till it took 30 mins to chill 2 degree .... maybe I really need to get 1 level up chiller ....

    The Chiller sounds ok, good in fact, in that it can reduce the temp by 2 degrees in 30 minutes, which is good.

    The problem is that the temperature is rising quite quickly in that 30-40 minutes later the chiller needs to start the cooling process again.

    This fluctuation of temperature could potentially be stressful on your critters, try increasing your desired temperature a bit eg to 26.6, this will reduce the temperature range your critters are experiencing and the time the chiller is on will be correspondingly reduced.

    Wow... temp rising from 26 to 28 degrees within 30 to 40 mins... Where is your tank located? Direct sunlight?

    Anyway... you might want to check (I'm not familiar with Resun chillers) if you can configure the thermostat to kick in earlier.. i.e. if you configure it to 26 degrees, most chillers will cool it down to 0.5 degrees lower than the designated temp and chiller kick in again 0.5 degrees higher than the designated temp. (26.5 degrees)

    There are other factors that you may want to consider here like the water flow within the tank, filter to chiller flowrate for example.

    that time is 4am while everybody is sleeping, my window and door all lock so living room a big heaty lor. Next time buy flat must choose a corner unit so no need to close window at night while sleeping...hehehe

    I heard the temp reading for resun a bit no accurate, must get external thermometer to read the tank temp then reset the chiller reading. But I lazy so didn't go buy it .. hahaha will get one soon...

    Now I set the reading to 27 degree and for the first half morning it only kick start once and took about 40 mins to cool down from 29 to 27. The parameter is not +-1 I think is +-2, cos everytime the temp before chill and after chill is 2 degree ... how to set it back to 1 degree?? read from someway but forgot liao...

    but sometime I saw some water come out from the bottom of chiller ( a bit only) and no more after that, is this normal? (like old type of refregirator)...

    The chiller a bit noise, should I upgrade the fan and will it silence after that? cos some brother in sgreef did that service and it perfectly silence after that. Anyone have lobang and contact for the servicing?

    Just top up gas and think to sell it and upgrade to more powerful chiller. Any bros interest? can view and test at my place...

    Mine is set to 25 degree, the chiller kick in at 30 min interval, run for less than 3 min and go to sleep again;

    No water should come out from the chiller bottom, which may indicate a leakage; Also, if u open the front cover of the chiller, u will see the motor devices inside with some electrical wiring. if there is a water leakage, it spells big problem for u; My is more than a year old and do not face this problem.

    Did u clean the filter attached to the front cover? This will help to reduce the noise; Also, put your filter outside the cabinet, it helps in the chilling process.

    As for the utilities bill, I do not see any significant increse after using the chiller.

    thks!... i place the chiller outside cabinet lar ... wow what model chiller u r using, so powerful that need 3 mins to cool down u water. may I know what temp u chiller start working to chill till 25?

    hmm I will check the chiller again tonight and see if got leakage...I suspect is my external DIY CO2 reactor cos I put it beside the chiller, last night saw it.

    Resun 450 - and my tank is 3 ft;
    3 min cooling time applies only when the tank has reach stablise temp, ie between 25 to 27 degree - based on the temp displayed on resun;
    But I suspect it is colder than that - whenever I put my hand inside the tank for more than 5 min, it will be numb; there is a layer of cold water at the bottom of the tank.

    no wonder lar ... 3ft tank, but 3 mins really damn good. I notice sometime the water temp will keep > 1 hrs at the same temp and the chiller didn't have to work. But once it work than it need more than 1 hrs to bring down 2 degree and sometime shorter ... headache don't know if the termostat crazy or ???

    I read the chiller temp 27 and when I put my hand in for planting and the water is really cold. better than last time using 2 fans blowing. Will get a external thremometer tonight to see what's wrong.

    finally upgrade to CL 650 and it work perfectly, take 20mins to cool down from 27 - 25. will monitor it during weekend see how the performance.

    When start sound quiet but hear a loud "pop" sound when it stop, checked in the forum and most of them have this problem too. Anyone fixed it before? can share..thks!

    Hi All the Chiller users,

    Can advise how much your eletricity bill increase with the use of chiller? Just your best rough estimate and the model of the chillier and the size of the tank. This may provide a guide to those who may intent to get a chiller to consider the additional cost.

    Thanks

    I confirm your observation on the loud pop sound when chiller stop for resun 450.
    Also, I also observe different therostat behaviour between different temp setting as reported by hii.

    For my case:
    When set to 25 degree, chiller kick in at 30min interval, and run for 3min at each interval.
    When set to 24 degree, chiller kick in at 50 min interval, but run for almost 15 min before go to sleep again.
    I did not try the other combination. but I did suspect the setting on the protein skimmer may also affect the chiller behaviour, due to warmer surface water.

    I do a test run this morning by set the temp t0 24 degree, and it chill from 26 - 24 took about 10-15 mins and soon the temp at chiller increase to 25 and stop for 1/2 hour...and kick start again when it reach 26. This maybe due to my filter rate a bit low i guess .... my connection is

    protein skimmer -> DIY external CO2 reactor -> Jeboa 618 -> chiller CL650 to -> tank

    I think I will cut short both pipe in and out from chiller to increase the flow rate, does it help?

    For Crazy Dragon

    Regard the electric bill, I saw sgreef club someone calculate average is $20 , but no actual correct amount, I only started using chiller last week and will report once I got my bill next month.

    Hello Hii,

    Thank for the information.

    When the chiller reached the set temperature, it stops and kick in again the temperature increase to a preset limit. When it stops, is the chiller still running and uses electricity or what? Kinldy enlighten.

    Thank you.

    Regards
