slowly..
juz wait till you see bene's 6 footer for apistoes when he sets it up.![]()

almond indian leaves? kekekeeee.. like the winner for AGA's biotope cat?

simon, andi say he can find..
so it's a matter of price liao lohh..
who will be the first apistomaniac to own a pair of diplos???
most likely bene, or u.. krkr..

aiya, but he wouldnt bring them in unless he can be sure there is a demand for them...
imo, 6ft is good for displaying apisto.. but when it comes to breeding.. small indivdually separately pairs do better.. a general rule is a 30cm radius per pair, but what i observe, the bigger the tank, the terrority increases with it... even since I have tefe frys inside the 6ft.. the female refuse to breed.. I currently have a A.agassizii alenquer male, A. agassizii Tefe 2 female & 1 male, a candidi male in my 6ft.. the number of apisto in the tank has to be considered too
The setting up is also important, fish inside do plays a part too.
With more hiding space means better coverage, lesser fish will aslo means lesser predators.
My intention is solely apisto inside my 6ft with some ditler fishes for apisto to bond with as a common enermy.
More driftwood,more plants,more of everything. =)
Er...First pair of dipo...i aslo not sure if i wanna get maybe other speices like mamaore, mendenzi will be more of my liking, Bitan. will be difficult but i'll see what can i get over there.
Cheers!
Benetay

wow... mamore!!
wen u guys going?
remember to find internet cafe and give live report harr..krkrkr..

wahahahaaa.. live broadcast hor.. krkrkrrkrkrkrrr... dun take pic, i wanna see live motion pics![]()
ben, there will be a boss among all the species/apisto u have.. and that alone will create quite a mess... I have E. spec planted all over my 6ft 3 hugh bogwood.. but my agassizii tefe male cant fail to stalked all of the other males in that tank.. (Darwin saying "Survivor of the fittest) those that fought back, live while I lost a few other males from injuries... reconsider, I advising from past experiences

hmm... was tokking to moae over lunch yesterday..
apisto natural habitat are very crowded...and perhaps we're housing them away from their natural space..
unless of coz we wan to breed them, den it's better to isolate pairs into small tanks..
from my limited experience, if all apistoes about the same size, den it's quite ok for them to live in harmony..
but if you have one exceptional big one, he will become the boss and snap and every other fish..
my pandurini male used to be the boss, and all other apistoes were hiding from him.. but after i lost him to mouth ulcer, all came out and swim happily together..

It's true in the natural habitat of S. American Apistos, it is usually inhabitated by up to a hundred or so in a small pool, sometimes more. That's b'cos of the dry season when flooded areas start to dry up. With all those vegetation & leaves piled up, it creates plenty of shelter for these babes. Just like, you know, our HDB units. Your neighbour just living upstairs. Hence, it is how your tank setup will accomodate them. Also to take into consideration, the specimens you will be keeping. If you're housing 10 pairs of the same specimen in a 6 ft, with plenty of shelters, won't be much of a problem. However, if you're havin' 10 different specimens of a pair in the same tank, that could spell trouble if you're planning to breed them. All depends on your priority.![]()

like the setup we talked abt last nite.. a center piece stacked with driftwood, will hold many females to one male.. mimic their natural biotope... but will be a species tank.
So 6ft tank can only put one speices of apisto?
Cheers!
Benetay

not really, but try to minimize diff species
meaning don't put 2sub species of aga in a tank?
Cheers!
Benetay

better avoid having more than one species of agassizii, mac or hongsloi.. agassizii becoz the species mix interbreed.. diff subspecies.. mac and hongsloi, becoz both looks almost similar..especially the female, so not to complicate things.. best to avoid
meaning don't put same family apisto together?
Cheers!
Benetay

ya, same subspecies or related bloodline.. to avoid mistaken id
