Hi Just40fun,
I think the article is fish first and plants later in the priority of things. Salt is not good for plants as far as I know. I reckon the salt is probably for the fishes.

Read that amazon swords can do quite well with hard alkaline water, bright lights, co2 and adding 1 teaspoon of salt per 10 galloon of water.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.
In my experience, Amazon swords do do well in hard water, but 1 teaspoon of salt for 10 gallons is too much for the plant, i think. I had about 1 teaspoon for about 25 gallons for a month or so, and the Amazon did not grow too well. After some titration through water changes (KH remaining about 9-10 degrees because i use coral chip in my filter), the Amazon has become a giant (about 2 ft tall with leaves about 3-4 inches wide).

Thanks John, may I ask what is the pH, dKH and dGH of your tank? Love to have 2ft tall swords, just perfect for my tank, which is 2ft tall.Originally Posted by Johnc
Ph about 7-7.5 with CO2 injection, dKH about 9-10. dGH not measured.Originally Posted by Just40Fun
