this shrimp was collected wild from Singapore (note to the collectors, please keep the locality confidential for now).

this one is the "Alpha Male"
size of this specimen is 5cm from rostrum to tail-fan (tip to tip). females are much smaller, about 3.5 cm bearing large black eggs.

you can see light red/white banding on the legs close to the body, this pattern is more obvious on the claw-carrying appendages of females. Also the tail-fan is trimmed on the left/right edges with a light cream/yellow strip.

first time I've seen an arm THIS hairy!

I know the male has a hairy arm. But I didn't know it is so hairy.

Mine is settling down in my tank now.

Very nice! And the female is carrying eggs as well... so little ones would be swimming around soon... seems like the hair is mostly on the bigger claw... acts as cleaner brush for the food it picks up?

Last night, when I was about to put those furries into my 3ft planted tank. I witness a personal battle between the furries and my Betta Ocelates

I had a similar shrimp from Endau Rompin, also very fierce. it actively seek out catfishes lying on the substrate and actually aim at their belly and PINCH !

They sure are pinchers. I have a small catfish who stays at the bottom. And is he badly pinched by these shrimps! They love eating live tubifex worms. Don't seem to touch Algae Wafers nor Hikari Crab Cuisine. Carnivorous lot they are.

And excellent shots Choy! I'm using it for my wallpaper at home!
    Cheerio!
