Most of the light casings are able to withstand the heat even if you put the maximum number of tubes it can hold. The only safety concern is the electrical connections. Make sure you are well versed on electric knowledge. For sets with non-electronic ballast, make sure it its grounded.

if you know electricity, there is no concerns. just make sure that all electrical connections are good and the light casing is grounded properly.

heat is not a concern for metallic casing. if you are using fans to cool the tank, the air movement to help to keep the light cool as well.

Just make sure you know electricity, the casting should not be much of problem.
For good or for ill, I will walk on the path chosen by none but myself.

tripping the electrical supply for your house is ok. just need to warn family member when you need to test.

You know how to modify the light to higher wattage?

Ignore me if you are some electronics/electrical genius or something...
but if you arean't, you can't just swap the lights for something stronger...the ballest needs to be able to support the higher wattage. If you are changing the ballest...well ballest aren't cheap.

I have DIYed a lighting before, the experience was very rewarding but it don't quite make much economical sense when you could get a pretty good light for < $50. The heat from the ballest made the casing that I made from air con trunking very hot. I was also constantly worrying if my house will catch fire...:P

how hot is very hot? touchable or untouchable?
you can drill some hole for ventilation or install a fan to extract hot air from the air con trunking.

Are you refering to the white plastic trunking? If it is so, then you have a genuine cause for concern cos the plastic might melt. I am currently using metal trunking (the ones HDB use to keep their wires/cables) It's not very hot when you touch it even after the lights are on for 8hrs.
