If you want to buy some base fertilizer i can sell you the JBL one for cheap.. i have a brand new un-opened packet that i didnt have any use for... no use stashing it at home so might as well sell to someone that can use it also for cheap.. AND on top of that i can also share some stuff wif you if you decide to come to my place and take me up on the offer..

To answer you question.. typically substrate level is anywhere from 4-7cm..sometimes even more but that is besides the point.. just stick to this for now..

One more thing, friends...

As i'm approaching to buy my items : base fertilizer, Lapis, Water plants and aquarium fauna, is there any advise for me?

In my mind, i'm still confused about one thing. That is, After i put in the base fert and substrate, How do i put in the plants? Poke a hole in the substrate and insert the plants? This will injure the roots.. I really don't know...

Secondly, do i put in the fishes together? Or i let the tank settle down and buy the fish next time? If so, (let the tank settle) how long will that be?

Your advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Just make sure you're clear about everything before buying. It'll save lots of money and trouble later.

Yea, just poke the plants in, much like how you plant terrestrial plants. The normal thing we do when planting rooted plants is to cut off long roots so that they're easier to plant in, and just stuff them into the substrate enough to hold them down.

Let the tank settle down for about 2 weeks, then get fishes. These two weeks will also give you time to plant any additional stuff, and make adjustments and observe things.

I did a mistake, due to my impatience. I bought it already. A 5kg pack.
Anyone wants? I can sell it cheap. If don't have, never mind. I can use these to experiment.. I'm really new to aquascaping. I want to learn to grow plants first...

I'm going to get the tank running maybe today or tomorrow. First, i'll go and get the DIY CO2.

There will usually be algae growth. If you manage it correctly, I daresay very little algae will appear. Typical algae you will see are hair algae, green dust algae and green water.

The waiting time of two/one weeks is for the tank to cycle, for the beneficial bacteria to build up. Your plants also need to adjust to their new tank conditions.

Here's a good guideline. When you finally see the plants putting out new leaves/growing, it's time to add fish and start fertilising liquid nutrients.
