when they die, they all look almost the same.. check yr nitrate level.. they r sensitive to temp and nitrate in my case
hi all..new in the hobby...need some advice..just setup a new 2ft tank n yamato prawns...2 of them got "boiled" literally. i then added some more malayan prawns(i thk).. but one by one turning up boiled...the water temp is ok...ard 27 deg...not sure what went wrong coz this is happening to the prawns individually..if the water is too warm then all would have been boiled rite?[]

oh....ok..will get the test set this wkend...then hopefully can find out y my malaysn's are either boiled or left with shells..thx for the adv...[]
malayan r defintely more hardy compared to yamato, but i prefer yamato when it comes to algae cleaning
if you find just empty shells that means they are moulting, which is good because that means they're growing. however I notice I usually get casualties after they moult as they don't have much protection until the new shell hardens.----------------

My yamatoes are surviving temperature of 30 degrees. Check your water parameters as Simon suggested.
if you find just empty shells that means they are moulting, which is good because that means they're growing. however I notice I usually get casualties after they moult as they don't have much protection until the new shell hardens.

Kel very possible they get eaten in their vulnerable state of undressI also find my population of shrimps dwindling visibly (200 malayan/tiger/bee in 25 gal), while the yamatoes remain. I have seen the dwarf neon rainbow going nipping at the shrimps (except yamato which is too big), suspect they have been quietly eating them, the ****.

but the only fishes that i have inside are cories, 1 cardinal, 2 neon and 1 black molly.. unless bumblebee gobies eat them too??? or oto or lemon algae eater??? sigh... me gonna look out for the murderer.. hahaha[

thx for the advise....yet to chk the water parameters yet...ot at work again...but agree tt the malayan more durable than the yamatoes...
hwchoy..do hope u're correct...coz really like never see the shrimps ard...maybe my goldfish took it for supper...
