I've been using Aquaz T5 6500k for a few months now. I have 3 8000k T5 bought from NA but not in use yet. Will find a time to use 1 of the tube to see if there are any difference.

For those of you guys who are upgrading, you should consider using T5s with parabolic reflectors. Without the parabolic reflectors, the effects are not that fantastic. The only problem with T5s is the availability of tubes with the appropriate kelvins for plants.

Hi, I intend to use 4 x 54Watts T5s for my 4 x2 x2 tank. I am interested in the Acadia 120cm over-tank lights but find the cost prohibitive. Why can I find the Aquaz parabolic reflectors? Is it possible to find a "lighting box" (dundo the actual name ) that can fit these reflectors, and that it can straddle over the tank? Tks

I got the reflectors at Reborn Aquarium, if i'm not wrong Pet Mart also sell it. For me i got a normal reflector from NA which i used as an "outer casing". I then attached 3 of the parabolic reflectors inside the "casing" - can only squeeze 3. I made it in such a way that i can have the option to hang it as well.

Its true that planted guys are not into T5s but some of them have started using them and is happy with the performance.

Not just planted guy, those aro guys also use T5s to tan their arowanas.

The benefit of t5s is that they runs cooler compare to PLs. Also, t5 are actually a normal flo tubes but it is made to be able to run on a higher wattage. And the tubes replacement is much cheaper comparing to the PLs now.

As of today, DE Lightings have produce the "M" parabolic reflectors so that u will have an optimum lights with no light lost. Just imagine if u are using a FL or PL with normal reflectors....it will definate have light lost.

There are many factors on this topic and the eballast also contribute a large factor on the life span and spectrum of the tubes. Those german eballast have a pre heating capabilities that will have a pause start to the tubes. This is avoiding the tubes to have a sudden surge and will prolong the lifespan of the tubes.

wow...i can go on and on on this topic...heheheh

if you guys need help either to have a complete unit or diy kit or even advise. pls do contact us...

On Tung Choi Street everything is priced the same… pricing for T5 HO

    DAZS: length 123 cm = $HK550 [3 x 54w]
    DAZS: length 62 cm = $HK375 [3 x 24w]
DAZS Comments: FL Tubes crammed into casing, reflector doesn’t have much height. Extra length would be a problem if they were intending to put the set in a hood. Cannot remember if FL tubes have individual power switches, Sets come with grey legs only. Tempting price for lots of light.

    SolarMax: length 60 cm = $HK480 [2 x 24w]
    SolarMax: length 120 cm = $HK1035 [2 x 54w]
SolarMax Comments: Good reflector, ample space for up-light to be redirected down wards. FL tubes do not have individual power switches. Sets come with transparent legs and pendant cable fittings.

German Brand – couldn’t find it again, but about $HK3900 with multiple tubes in a rather intimidating box configuration

There are plenty of other normal T5’s models around, but these are the two T5 HO’s models are seen the most. I got my SolarMax set at Hong Kong Aquarium, which I have found to be a reliable shop.

    Dear Dr Evil,

I am not sure if you can provide a series of pictures of the same or similar tank with 10K, 7.5 & 6.5 K settings?

The reds really stand out in some lighting circumstances… and not in others. It would be great to see a controlled lighting set up with good pictures… anyway just a thought.

PS like your website and the "Auto water top kit" that you have…very tempting

unfortunately, this tank is not mine and was taken by my customer who is a member to this forum. u cant really tell the shade of spectrum as it is quite close.

As for the reds, i guess they need more strong lightings...some have achieve good reds in 10k tubes.....try checking with ah sioa.....he using a combi of 10k n 6.5k spectrum.

    my 2 cents....

btw, a good stuff on the water top up....if interested, just email me....

I have just be down Tung Choi Street in HK and found that SolarMax have introduced a new T5HO light that is more streamlined in design, wider and pivots on the legs and of course just after buying mine are HK$200 cheaper. If I find a picture I will post it.
