The 6ft. Where got space for a new tank?!?!?Anyway, using it on an existing tank will provide a basis for comparison.
I'm thinking:
- 6x39W (3ft tubes) = 234W,
- 4x24W (2ft tubes) + 4x39W = 252W, in staggered formation, or
- 3x80W (5ft tubes) = 240W, which at the moment seem impossible to find in SG LFS. Have to check Philips or Osam suppliers. Reflectors will be an issue too.
Currently running 9x36W (324W) PLs on this tank.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
What's the width of the tank? I will get back later once I find the right setup for you.

I'll PM you. This thread is getting a little off-topic... sort of.Originally Posted by BFG

if i'm you i'll make it like 4 x 39W on each side. so total is 8 x 39W

Right now with 9x36W PL, my plants are doing well... if T5 with good reflectors are really much brighter, then I don't need to have as much wattage as now.

Which LFS offer reasonable price for T5 lighting ? Not those DIY using FL casing and reflector.
I looking for 2ft T5 lighting for my new tank.
I found this website online which seem to offer better price compare to what we have in SG ? From what i read, seem like T5 very exp in SG LFS ?

maybe i share a little bit.
i am using 3x39W T5 plus 2x36W PL for my 3 feet tank. both light sets from NA. have been using them for more than half year.
both T5 set and PL set use e-ballast. the cover is exactly the same.
i would say the T5 set is brighter and intensive. not much. maybe 20% but not more.
however within the same cover, 3 T5 tubes are fitted, comparing to only 2 36W tubes are fitted. in another words, you can have more tubes (more light) for the same space. that's the biggest advantage.
i know there are 55W Pl tubes available. two 55W pl tubes can also be fitted in the same housing. that is 120W which is same as 3X39W in terms of wattage. however if you look at the way 55W tubes are fitted, you can see it's really congested.
large amount of light is blocked by the edge of housing. no reflector can solve that problem. for 3x39W, there are ample space at each side in the housing thus more light is reflected and directed to the tank below.
even the light intensity is same per watt btw T5 abd pl, i will get T5 and pay for the neatness.
btw i would veyr much like to know more about the T5 special ballast mentioned above. if price tag is ok, i like to replace my current e-ballast with it. anywhere got? ok just checked reef site, the T5 special ballast has feature of dimming. no other difference seems. guess i stick to my current eballast.

Maybe u can consider having a multiple of 2ft (tank width) across the width of your tank. Seems like T5 tube >4ft is hard to get in Singapore.Originally Posted by vinz

About 6 weeks ago I started using two units of T5 HO [2 x 54w] from SolarMax, which I got from Hong Kong. It was hard to find units that did not have the tubes crammed in and it was harder to find ones with good parabolic reflectors that directed the up-light back down.
I am not sure if there is a supplier in Singapore or not? But here is link to the manufacturer:
http://www.chinapets.com/product/p_p...&productid=537
When I have some more experience with these I will document my transition from MH’s to T5 HO.

Jeez you guys are making me all interested.
Anyone has any idea what temperature T5 tubes are available in? Also, are the sets from NA any good?
I DIY my T5 lights about 1mth plus ago with Aquaz parabolic reflectors and the effects are amazing. Very Bright!! and also not as hot as PLs. The total cost of my 39W x 3 T5s is about $160. For those of you guys who are upgrading, you should consider using T5s with parabolic reflectors. Without the parabolic reflectors, the effects are not that fantastic. The only problem with T5s is the availability of tubes with the appropriate kelvins for plants.

I got each unit with 6500k & 10000k tubes. There are probably other K ratings but haven't seen other.... I will have a hunt around HK in the weekend to see what other K ratings are available.Originally Posted by |squee|
