Wahahaha! If any of the pioneers of planted tanks in Singapore are around, they might just tell you how someone actually went and got a fire extinguisher converted for aquarium use.

I believe the delivery mechanism is different. You need to be able to fit on a regulator.

First, to find someone to do the conversion will be quite difficult. When you find such a person, he'll probably tell you it's more worthwhile to get a normal CO2 cylinder.

Personally I have seen fire extinguishers used as CO2 cylinders. And have even helped that friend bring it to Tuas for top up.

Agree with Vinz that it is more convenient to look for a Co2 cylinder. Prices are not as expensive as a few years before.

Ah-ha. Read your link carefully... he bought from a fire-extinguisher supply shop and they sold to him one with the CO2 "stem"... which means they converted it for him.

visit some lfs to check the prices. you should be able to get a complete co2 set for < $150. however, expect to pay more for one that has proper regulator, solenoid valve and needle valve.

Its a one time investment which you would not regret really. You have to pay for it somehow and get something that is reliable rather than cheap (throttle valves rather than regulators) which will save you alot of problems and headaches. If you really cannot afford it, consider the non-CO2 style tanks which is nice as well if properly done. Bclee will help you on that one...ala Diana Walstad style or modified Tom Barr style.

what kind of budget do you have?
but a proper co2 system is one 'investment' that you'll not regret.
