I think it's the grandfather of Java moss. Could also be underwater fungus ... very cool indeed!
hello guys,
im hoping someone can help me out here. i recently got some unidentified moss from a shop, which i den proceeded to tie to a piece of wood inside my tank.
This tank is very newly setup, and the moss itself has been sitting in there for less than a week. the moss looked normal till two days back when i noticed it started growing grey hairy legs. this "legs" are only growing on one side of the moss, and not all over the place.
it might not be too obvious in the picture, but in real life, the legs are quite obviously grey, and doesn't look very...nice.
is this normal?

hhhmmm i went to the shop just now and took a look at the tank from which he pulled the moss out for me. theirs not hairy...
There are 2 sub groups of moss(can't remember the scientific name).
1 group will have root-like hairy structure that will cling onto any surfaces, these are the rhizoids which are for attachment and water absorption. Examples are Christmas, java moss and pellia. Once matured the hairy rhizoids will turn into dark brown colour.
Any moss experts to elaborate further?
Regards
hey dreamgarden, thanks for that clarification. i'll keep notice of my moss and hope that bits would turn dark brown too.Originally Posted by Dreamgarden
