I'll suggest that you bring it (the whole set or just the plastic part) to the shop to be sure. The four screws and plate at the base Armani's "relic" does not look standard to me.

Normally, it's a nut that is screwed onto end of the metal tube. But I understand that some non-standard sets look similar, but have different width or length of tube, so if you don't want to end up going back and forth and , bring the set.

Also, good idea to test the whole set with the new solenoid at the shop in case it's the off chance it's actually a mechanical failure.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

why not just get a new one?? so much hassel...besides.. all the repair may end up costing the same..
or even worse..after all the hassel..you find cannot use then have to get a new one..
    just cut the chase man..
usually cases like these when pple try to save money they end up wasting more BOTH time AND money.. somemore so dangerous.. wrong place to try and save la bro..
personal opinion... just ignore it if you think differently.

Brilliant suggestion! I'll take the gauges along too. That sort of disconnection I sure know how to do.

Who knows, the Uncle at the lfs may be kind enough to help me disconnect the faulty one and fit the new in for me.
I expect 1st class service to be rendered at all lfs from now on!

Can you elaborate? Your "pump off" method will only cause slower CO2 circulation, but the gas still goes in. Worse, it may cause localised CO2 build-up/ poisoning of the fish and also air-lock the pump?

I will only have time for lfs next week and the trouble is my naughty wife is refusing to help me manually turn on the main valve mid-noon when the lights come on. Looks like I'll have to do it in the morning before I leave for work, which I rather not for fear of CO2 poisoning.
