Atmann Filter medium recommendation

Hi,
I have a Atmann cannister Filter with two container
inside the cannister.One of the cannister consist of a layer of sponge attached and the other is empty.

Would appreicate any recommenadtion for filter medium,

Bottom basket
Ceramic rings followed by coarse filter pad.

Top basket
Those 'substrate like' rocks such as EHFISUBSTRAT (can also use ceramic rings but not as effective as a biological media because of the reduced surface area for bacterial colonization), followed by the fine filter wool. []
