I read that before (somewhere) and it is also supposely good for the substrate
Went to a lake today and found gobs of little freshwater clams in the mud....so.....I brought some home...along with some water plants. I've rinsed them all off and have put some in a couple of my tanks....it didn't take them long at all to open up and start digging. The bettas thought this all very interesting and took a few nips at them...so I helped them along some by pushing them down into the substrate.
Now, I've seen where freshwater clams are for sale for aquariums because they are supposed to be good for extra filtration....so I've read....is this true ?

Read on TFH that clams can act as filters. But they are also not easy. There must be stuff in the water for them to filter... Much like the fan shrimps...
Check out the old issues of TFH or ask them which vol of the mag carried the article.
Cheers!

Emg, hope you didn't bring home those Zebra Mussels. Those are considered pests in the USA and was introduced into the Great Lakes and surrounding waters by ships that discharged their bilge water into the lakes.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
nope...not zebra mussels, just plain freshwater clams. I'll take a pic of them and post it.
