Hey i'm gonna start a new 'SMALL'l shrimp only tank about 1 foot and i want to know if a few things are needed.

    1. Will i need a filter? Internal or external or do i even need one

    2. Will i need base fert?

    3. What sort of plants do i need?

    4. Will i need Co2?

    5. And how much lighting do i need?

No need filter if just shrimp. But keep the bioload low in the first few weeks and do a 1/3 water change every 3-4 days for at least a month to help the tank get through the cycling stage. No need base fert either, but I would go for low maintenance plants like moss, ferns, crypts, Anubias.... which don't need Co2 injection. Lighting? Those 9W or 11W or 13W fixtures should be enough, about 8 hours daily.

Hey ahkar, I'm moving this to the fauna section since it discusses more on shrimp rather then newcomers to a planted tank

    1. I'd say a small hang-on will be good for water circulation and filtration.

    2. Base fert? What for unless you're planning to do some good planting.

    3. Normal stuff, preferably those with lots of foilage like the others mentioned: moss, fluffy stemmed plants, blah blah

    4. Depends on your plants, and how much of a planted setup you want.

    5. Well it really depends on your plants again.
