Danios Breeding.

Hi guys!

I just got back from work and noticed a few tiny wrigglers in my vivarium. Scared the living daylights out of me cos' I thought they were mosquito larvae(dengue scare).

Upon closer inspection, however, I realised that they were actually my danio's offsprings! I haven't had danios breed on me before (maybe cos' I never really kept them) so I'm at a loss of what went on. I had a small school of 5 danios in there, no other fishes.

Do I feed them BBS? How long before they reach a size where they can take regular fish food?

For Zebras and Leopard danios:

rearing the fries:
free swimmin on the 7th day... need infusoria or liquid fry food...
may be a week before they are large enough to eat newly hatched brine shrimp.... although they can usually tackle microworms after a couple of days..

young can reach 2.5cm in 8 weeks

Congrats! Danios spawned in your vivarium... wow... Would there be enough stuff in the water for them?...

Danio fry are pretty small at birth. Most need infusoria or microscopic foods to survive the first few days, after which BBS is needed to help them grow.

The adults are egg-scatterers and will gladly feed on eggs and fry if given a chance.

400 eggs?!?!?!

I only see 6 fry! Hehe... my viv is kinda of a misnomer. Half of the tank is water, the other half is moss on a driftwood thats making an island out of the water. They must have been there for a while cos' they are tiny, but swimming around already!

BTW, do the parents eat the young???

Well, the remaining 6 fry would be answering your last question... They eat eggs too...

Try feeding them the fry food commercially available...
