Just half your lighting amount, the lower the better , assuming your water level is filled to almost brim of 1.5 ft, and off your CO2 completely.
Photoperiod and fert as you per normal.

I am tempted to convert my 4 x 1.5 x 1.5 into a low-tech tank w/o CO2 and would hence like to seek the opinion and advice of fellow forummers. The tank is planted with only ferns, anubias and various crypts, illumintaed by 4 x 36W PLL and is now currently injected with pressurised CO2. Water column is fertilised twice weekly with Seachem range of products.
What are the procedures that i should take to convert the tank to a low-tech one? E.G. Should i reduce the photoperiod and the amount of lighting? What about the fert regime? Many thanks in advance.

I have a 6ft planted with crypts, ferns and moss, no co2 (cut off after 3months), 8 x 36W PL, 9hrs light, 26C, water change twice a week with little bit of liquid fertilizer. You dont see bubbling, but plants are healthy with no sign of algae.
(The tank went through BGA, BBA and now is clean).
Maybe you can start by cutting off co2 slowly, and reducing light period if you are worry about algae outbreak.

But is there a sort of method that we can go through so that the tank suffers minimal algae during this conversion stage? Like for example first week reduce lights, second week reduce lights furthur and remove CO2... blah blah, some sort of methodlogy?![]()

I did comtemplate cutting off CO2 slowly but wouldn't that mean a subsequent outbreak of BBA? I'm really scared of that stuff.Originally Posted by lorba
I have already shut off CO2 supplement to the tank just now and also halve the light to 2 x 36W. Will keep you guys updated of its progress.
Lorba, able to advise on how your fert regime is like for the 6ft tank?
