JBJ Artica or Daeil are pretty good but expensive. They are the same. Daeil is the OEM for JBJ. Daeil is cheaper, but JBJ gives longer warranty.

Look around www.sgreefclub.com's buy/sell forums. 2nd hand chillers for sale frequently.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.

1/10hp JBJ Artica is about 1.2K thereabouts.
1/10hp Daeil is cheaper, maybe by $100.

0.5hp JBJ Artica is about 2.4K.
    0.5hp Daeil is about 1.8K

You definitely do not need a 0.5hp for your tank. I'm not sure if a 1/10 hp is enough... it's either that or maybe one grade up.

For comparison, a 0.5hp Pacific Coo chiller is about 1.2K.

Please check around about the reputation of any of the chillers before you buy. If something is cheaper, you should ask why.

Here is a good link for sizing of a chiller

    http://www.jbjlighting.com/prod_chiller_size.asp

I have a 1/5hp JBJ Artica, but guess that all chillers are fairly similar in that the hot air expelled will need to go somewhere and they make some noise, thus it is important to consider where it will be located.

Tank lighting eg MH's probably has the biggest impact on performance the next biggest influencer is the ambient room temperature.

What temperature are you planning to use? I set my temp at 26.6C [+/- 0.5] and it works ok, but if I wanted 24C it might be a struggle for my set up. If you are looking at 22C then go up a size that is recommend and keep your aircon on.

Buying second hand is good way to go.

vinz i noticed the brand they selling away as 2nd hand are 99% from RESUN. is there some performance issue besides the noise??

my current chiller was bought from Qian Hu - "Snow" Brand from italy. i'm thinking of buying another 2nd hand chiller of smaller Hp so the current doesn't work so hard. however i have yet to find chance to jagar the chiller for 1 whole day.

anyone using 2 chillers to cool 1 tank?

I just bought a RESUN 450 chiller recently...I think the noise is not as what it claim to be very noisy. No doubt the artica and some japanese brand I saw at the aquarama were close to silent, but I think resun's noise level is acceptable. I would compare it to a fan running noise. Price was my primary consideration. With artica, u can easily buy 2 to 3 resun and i think resun is realiable to some extent. Nope no 2 chiller on 1 tank. I don't use n don't see the need/logic.

    Chiller's Options:
    1) Cheap (as in cash value)
    2) Good (as in performance in terms of bringing the water temperture down with least noise and power consumption)
    3) Fast (Time taken)

But you can only choose two....
Then you can conclude your idea chiller.
example 1: 1+2=you might need to wait longer for the price to drop....
example 2: 1+3=Can buy cheaper brands off the shelf anytime at low price, it might not be good.
example 3: 2+3=Well, it will never be cheap
    Cheers and Regards,

    1) Does Atman chiller silience than Resun?
    2) What about performance which one chill faster?
    3) Any bad comments about both Atman and Resun like some major part easy spoilt etc?
    4) Most important, which one use less power save $$ (if both hp are the same at 1/4hp).

Thks! first time buyer so got to make a careful choice else pocket got big hole later..
