Is it algae or bacteria growing on it? It seems to grow at the exposed places of the wood, not on the bark. Anything I need to do or it's safe enuff to be left alone?

Not to worry, it's just fungus growing on your new wood. Read more here: http://www.floridadriftwood.com/aqua..._driftwood.htm

Scroll to the bottom. The first time I got it, I was terrified . I added some mollies/platies and they actually ate the stuff, although it will go away once your driftwood has been colonised by bacteria.

Yup! Depends on the type of driftwood you get also. The ones I have are those from mangrove trees. Don't make the water yellowish but the main reason behind soaking it is to get it not to float, otherwise, u'll need to get weights to weight it down in ur tank.
Why don't you sit on this?! ..|..
