My CO2 supply stops after a few hours. Starts bubbling again when I adjust the regulator. I am using a manual regulator. I think this is a common problem but cant seem to find the thread with the solution to this problem other than using solenoid. Thanks a million!

You cant adjust the regulator. You may need a needle valve. And you will also need to relook at your C02 setup (needle valve, bubble counter, check valve and etc). It seem strange that you adjust CO2 feed rate through regulator.

That was what I did man. His and mine are both manual valves, so we can't really controll the rate. It's actually just a on-off switch in essence.

Yup... We are like the 'downtown kids' in maintaining an aquarium Cant afford no high-tech gizmo like soleroid... squee, where did u get the needle valve from? I'm getting one tomolo, prob doing down to NA.

a solenoid does not control the flow rate. a needle valve does.
a regulator is needed to have a fixed output pressure. the 'manual regulator' is not a regulator at all. just a on/off valve.

God no, what I mean is you'd better get a proper regulator and a solenoid, not affix a needle valve to your present manual valve! I did that (perhaps I didn't post up my conclusion in that old thread) but after one day, the same thing happened again. I just couldn't control the rate of the bubbles.

I gave up, saved up money to buy a JBL regulator, and problems solved.

Ohhh.... I c.... Well, today was my lucky day! Was shopping ard Koven for biostarter and came across a LFS selling a 2nd-hand solenoid. Dunno wat brand is it. The only name I see on it is 'CS Curporation'. Made in Germany. Bought that gizmo with empty 0.8L CO2 cylinder for $80. The lady owner was helpful too, gave some pointers on my tank. Now she's waiting for my confirmation of 50 cardinal tetras.

a solenoid is an electrically controlled valve. a regulator controls the co2 output pressure. these 2 items are different. hopefully, you have a proper regulator plus a solenoid.

Yeah, it's a solenoid with a regulator. Dun have a cam to take a pic of it but has 2 gauges, 1 for the cylinder pressure, the other for the outlet pressure. Seems to be working fine for now.

solenoid is much easier then a manual regulator..

no need to adjust everyday..... just need a timer hehe

good to hear that. no more tearing your hair out trying to control the bubbling rate.

solenoid and regulators are 2 different things/devices. do not mix them together. and regulators do not control flowrate, needle valve does.

yeah i know.... but there is a knob on my solenoid where i can control my flowrate.. kinda works for me

Yup, the dennerle and bioplast regulators does not have solenoids incorporated into part of its design but can be added inline if needed.

oic, so where can i grab these "non-solenoid" dual gauge manual regulators...
i've read the various links of the bad points of having single gauge with needle valve

You can get the bioplast or dennerle regulators which cost a quite a bit but are standard regulators (not throttle valves that are being sold quite commonly quite pretty cheap prices). NA and Systems and Controls Engineering aka bioplast are good places to source for proper regulators.
