hi, i got some amazon sword plants from petmart yesterday.
think it's very good for my background. (suspect my plecos have been making holes in my java ferns!)
are amazon swords hardy? easy to care for, like java ferns and nanas?
no co2, with only normal FL?

amazon sword is low light plants, they can survive w/o C02.. if u dun have substrate fertilizer, u can alway use root monster/jobes sticks

Where is all the fertilizer going to when the plant dun have enough CO2 or light to use them up? I wouldn't bother with fertilizer unless there is CO2 or more light.
if your pleco is making hole in Java fern, your Sword also likely to kanna.

Some amazons are quite hardy. I have some in my newt tank which only has substrate fert and no liquid fert nor CO2. Lighting is moderate. The plants stay small at about 3 inches tall but maintain a decent green. Rarely any leaf deaths.
A plant from the above tank transferred to my planted tank grew into a monster with 15-18 inch leaves. The planted tank has substrate fert, root monster, liquid fert and 3watts/g of light.

swords are prime targets for plecos and clown loaches
plecos tend to make the leaves look like lace plants and clowns always leave bite marks in the leaves for fun
as for ease of growing
somehow i find that once it starts to grow roots, they're very hardy
but the problem is the initial rooting seems to be entirely arbitrary for me

Yimin, by amazon sword I presume Echinodorus sp? I have one of these big E (looks like osiris with pinkish new leaves turning into dark green) the leaves damn tough leh, you mean pleco and go through them?
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

I think the plant I have is also those Amazon sword plant.
You don't really need CO2 and a strong light for it as it will still grow well.
I planted mine and the roots grow like bee hoon...
