    Hi all

Been thinking of doing a "submerged forest" kind of look. Lots of detritus, deal leaves/driftwood and the like. Sparse vegetation, mostly moss (suggestions?), some hairgrass, some kinda broad leafed native plant(suggestions?).

I'm quite bent on having a submerged tree (dead of course) on one corner, with the root system running along the bottom to provide lots of hiding places for possible fry.

Considering my only successful attempt at aquascaping was a 2ft hairgrass/moss tank that got eaten when my bunk mates put a crayfish in, any suggestion would be appreciated.

Eh eh... So will that be for the 6ft?

Lots of detritus? You sure? Anyway, when the tank is established, there WILL be lots of detritus... Keke... Ok, that'll depend on the type of fish you keep...

You want swords in the tank? I have chain swords to let go. Let me know. They're rather easy and are already well established.

    Broad leave native plants... Crypts?

    I'm crypt collecting... Starting cheap, now have Cryptocoryne beckettii, C.beckettii var petchii, C.crispatula var.balansae, C.griffithii(Melted! ), C.nurii, C.parva, C.pygmaea(Melted! ), C.tonkinensis(Melted! ), C.walkeri, C.wendtii 'Brown', C.wendtii 'Green', C.wendtii 'Green Gecko', C.wendtii 'Tropica' and Cryptocoryne x willisii

Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...

What kind of crypts? Like the specific name, any idea? I'm quite the noob if you haven't realised...
And... what do chain swords look like? or where are they from? That and you're on the opposite side of the island man... I'm in pasir ris(near the farm )

As for fish, a few betta pugnux, harlequin rasboras, 6 banded tiger barbs, macrobrachium malayanum, woodshrimp, cherry shrimp(can anyone suggest a replacement?) and maybe a goby or 2... And of course the usual assortment of snails

Submerged forest? You'll want Bolbitis then. Java fern will also be ideal. Get driftwood in, decorate it with bolbitis, java fern, lots of moss. Cyperus helferi at the back.

Bare white sand foreground. Crypts like C.griffithi maybe? The ever popular Wendtii also. Wendtii Tropica if you want broad leaved types.

Chain sword plant refers to E.tennellus. It'll be great if you can look through this year's ADA catalog.

Oh... I think the chain sword I have is the Echinodorus latifolius or E.xingu... They are bigger than the E. tenellus and should look ok in a forrest look... The foreground plant in my tank ( http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...8Image0028.jpg )

But they are not South-east Asian... So, if you still want, we can always arrange to meet somewhere...

Wow... so little fish in the 6ft tank? Can you resist the temptation? Keke... Try replacing the cherries with Malayan or blue shrimps... More local...

    @ squee:
Thing is, this tank won't have a fore/background. It's doubling as a partition for my sleeping area and my work area(Yes, it's a huge motherf@cking tank ) So it'll work more on left and right than foreground and back.

But do you guys have any books on plants i could get a hold of somehow? All those names look very alien to me

Try to obtain 'The Aquarium Plant Handbook'. You might have to order from some LFS, maybe auntie at C328 can help. It has a pink lotus on the cover...

Anyway, thanks for the sword offer but no... I'm trying to be as ecologically correct as possible. As for very little fish in the tank, not only can I resist the temptation, I'm also flat broke after buying the tank and cabinet =) Besides, I like the idea of actually being able to say "hey! I haven't seen that fish in a few days..." when they come out of hiding =) Shall try to sketch my idea and post later.
