    hi all,

I have set up a planted tank appx. 3 month ago. The problem is until now i have yet to see bubbles, other than my riccia the rest of the plants doesn't produce any bubbles.

Condition of my tanks is as follow:

    Co2-2bps
    light-80w, fl tube from aqulux.
fertilizer-dennrel E15 and V30 (after every water change)
    gold 7(every week)
    kh-5
    ph-7.5 to 8

doing 30% water change every 2 week.

also my hair grass is turnig brown but is still spreading very slowing
any idea wat needs to be done? anyone?
is it better to change my fl tube to pl?

    hi kenny

if your PH is between 7 to 8 and your KH value is at 5 then your water does not have enough CO2...for a KH value of 5 your PH should be around 6.5 to 6.7 tops.....

if you see bubbles on your riccia, perhaps they are absorbing CO2 and nutrients faster then the rest of your plants....increase your CO2 count.

    tks david

currently i am using the diffuser with spinning ball inside type.

it seems that it cannot diffuse the co2 fast enough. i always end up with more than half co2 in the diffuser.

    is this normal?

Your CO2 is definately not diffused properly into the water. Suggest you switch your diffuser.

Any suggestion on diffuser? i know of a diffuser 'cyclo turbo' i think. according to my friend, it is the best diffuser around, but it cost a steep 90 buck! any cheaper type?

oh... another thing is that the water turbulence is to much. Co2 maybe loss too quickly.

    hmmm......true.

maybe its because of the fan i use to cool my lighting and lower the temp of the water. No choice, no chiller[]

anything else that i can do to improve my tank?
how about the lighting? is it good enough?

Fan would not cost such high turbulence imo....Yours is a internal CO2 reactor I think...Maybe you can spend some money on an external one or those ADA diffuser. Another thing could be leakage between connections leading up to your reactor...just my guess though. Another tip that I got from a book is that at high pH such as yours..nutrient uptake by plants are hard to impossible as the nutrients are insoluble in that water conditions...dunno true or not though. hi kenny

perhaps what you may want to consider is the glass diffuser......you will need to increase your dissolved CO2 volume as your KH and PH points to insufficient CO2...internal reactors are good but then again if you are on a one filter system you may be taking too much outflow to mix the CO2 and your tank circulation takes a bad hit...unless if you have an over rated filter to your tank volume in the first place.

    Hi Kenny,

SherChoo is right. The lighting is not enough. I got the same problem with my 3ft when I first started off, only 72W. Then added in a powerful light set with a solid reflector, problem solved, riccia pearling like siow when I reached home every night. Now I'm running more than 3W/g for my 3ft.

    Hi,

I have a 400 liters tank measuring 151 X 51 X 62 cm. However, I can only fit 4 X 38 watts of FL lights inside. That works out to be 0.38 Watts per liter (can't remember the litre to gallon conversion). However, everything inside (including ricca) is bubbling also. I think it's not the light, but the amount of CO2 that encourages the plants to bubble.
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    hi guys,

thanks for all your tips. Made some improvement to my tank yesterday.
I added 30ml of black water extract to reduce my ph level and change the direction of my filter outlet to allow circulation of the water.

2 hours later i saw BuBBLES!!! although they are just small bubbles but its a great start! however the bubbles is only on one side, where my diffuser is.

planning to improve on the following

lights: does Nature Aquarium modify FL to PL? My is a ocean free casing. how much any ideas?

Filter: currently using 1 x 2213 ehiem filter is it recommended to add another filter? 2213? cause i think the water circulation in my tank isn't good enough.

    ken
