Opinions vary, but for me I'd say an average of 1 and a half years to 2 years?

    Cool

How long is depend on your care for it. Let say if you supply the bottom with proper fertilizer time by time together with liquid form this will help a lot in maintain the rich of the substate. for my exprerience ,I used to keep the 24 inch tank for 4 years.

A couple of months is about it if you use CO2 enriched methods and the tank is packed with weeds.

Slightly off topic, is it true that frequent removal of plants for trimming and planting them back will cause algae outbreak as the base fert is always disturbed when the plant is pulled out
