Those insects that end up on stagnant water in your bathrooms in the morning? =/ I think i'd just scoop them out. Fishes might go for my shrimps' babies.
Hello all...
I encountered a problem the last few nights.. that is, there are a lot of flies..
Dead on my surface of my shrimp tank... And they do not sink into the water.. Can you, reader, please tell me what fish can i put in to solve and eat up these dead flies...
I thought of the surface fish, halfbeak.. But, will they eat up my shrimps??
It is a shrimp tank...
Please help.. And your advice will be greatly appreciated..
Thank you,
Alvin

those fish that have mouths big enough to take out the flies probably can take out the shrimplets too yeap, but bororas maculatas should be quite shrimp friendly
Holy is the Lord, God Almighty ! The Earth is filled with His Glory !
90 x 50 x 50 cm tank: Eheim 2217; ANS CO2 Solenoid with 60mm intense bazooka; Zetlight 6400; Teco 500 Chiller; Borneo Wild Steel inlet/outlet

Just a note, my bororas maculatas have a voracious appetite for baby shrimps.Originally Posted by Phillipians
I suppose first of all, make sure your fish is well fed so that they will leave the shrimps alone.
I am not sure but my trigo espei seems to mind my shrimps alone and am always swimming at the top half of the tank. Less contact with the shrimps at the bottom.
Moreover, the mosses should provide a good hide out for your baby shrimps.
Hi Scot,
You can try hatchets, they seem to leave mine alone and most of the time they are at the surface.![]()
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.
Any fish that eats those insects at the surface may also eat your shrimp fries. Maybe the best thing to do is scoop the insects off with a small net. It could be just an occasional problem.
Hatchets are a good choice for clearing up surface-landing insects. They don't go into the lower and middle depths of the tank unless necessary and seldom bother shrimps.

That is Clown Killies
Alvin,

There are many kinds available out there. Usually from the genera Carnegiella and sometimes Thoracocharax. One of the common species is the Marbled Hatchetfish, Carnegiella strigata.
Hastatus here stands for Corydoras hastatus. Look in the link below.

The fish in Benny's avatar is the Clown Killifish, Pseudepiplatys annulatus. You would be much advised to be very careful in acclimatising those bought from the LFS. Many do not make it because they are easily stressed if kept in the wrong water conditions for prolonged periods of time.
They are safe with cherry shrimps, however the occasional shrimplet might be eaten by a hungry adult Clown Killie.
Again I must emphasise that the image search on Google is a very good tool in getting some images of certain species.

Hi Alvin,
How are you? I'm there( C328 ) about 3 times a week.Things are 'reasonable' priced there and I have a fetish for weird catfishes which auntie brings in once in a while.
So cya around.
