Why the specific value of 7.6? That's almost impossible for the home aquarist.

Each tank is different. It's almost impossible to create so-called optimum conditions for your tank. You're going to spend a lot of money this way.

Your pH is going to move about no matter what due to removal of CO2 by plants. Does it hurt the critters? No.

In my view... Sometimes, hobbyists seem to be obsessed with adjusting pH etc cos we are being told or we read that certain fish needs certain pH level to survive/thrive etc...

While for some fish it is true, eg. Lake Malawi and Lake Tanyayikan fishes, most fish can survive at a wide range of pH. It hurts more to adjust the pH to suit the fish as pH swings/crashes can occur and the fish may die due to that... Also, it is a PITA to adjust to a certain pH and then maintain it... pH naturally will swing within a range in a day and even between water changes...

Learn to keep fish that can adjust to our water conditions. But at the same time, provide the best for them. That is the way to enjoy fish keeping...

Sorry, today my 2 cents seem very preachy...
