    Hello everyone.....

I had my cylinder CO2 tank topped up recently. When I tried to use again on my planted tank, I realised there was an OBVIOUS leak from the MAIN TAP.

Mine is a basic cylinder that I bought as a set....

Anyone had this experience before? WHat could be the problem?

You mean the 'cap' (top regulator) is leaking? You can take back to the shop where you do top up and ask if they can help. C328 Aunty helped me get that changed once. She says that is a rather common problem. I think caused by us holding the cylinder by the top...
    Read me! http://justikanz.blogspot.com/

Simon - I don't think mine came with a 'seal'. Got any pic? Actually I'm not even sure how the 'seal' looked like.

Justikanz - I think I know what you're referring to. And if it is, yes, it's the MAIN regulator that, when I turned it on, it would emit HISSING sound and I could feel the strong gush of 'wind' coming out from just below the main regulator.

OK, I would bring it to the shop where I had it topped up. Thanx everyone.

most likely the rubber seal is missing from the regulator. check your regulator. when you fitted the regulator back to the cylinder, is it very loose?

    OK, problem is now identified.

My cylinder's main tap, maide of plastic, cracks. The LFS guy told me that this is quite normal. He suggested that I changed it to the iron one which I agreed.

I was informed that all CO2 (which was just tooped up) will be lost. He's trying to waive the topping up cost for me.

That's very dangerous! Due to the pressure in the cylinder, it's lucky the cylinder tap did not "blow up". Just makes me wonder why the lfs guy or the person topping up the cylinder did not noticed the crack.

Alright, I've got my main tap changed to an iron one. I was charged 35 bucks for it, inclusive of topping up charges.
