I frequently hear of you guys mentioning your fish spawn.
Just curious -- were they in the big tank when they spawn? Or in a small breeding tank without filtration? Because the filter intake in the bigger tank could suck in the frys, right?

Hi Juggler, IMO tank size doesn't really have to be big, or too small for that matter. My breeding tanks are mainly 1 ftrs & 2 ftrs, depending on the no. of fishes & specimens you have in them. Have tried successfully to spawn a pair of A. cactuoides in a small styrofoam box, with a piece of driftwood & plenty of 'Ketupang' leaves in my balcony. Second spawn now in fact. Pair of A. agasizii 'Tefe' spawned in my 2 ftr, laid eggs in my Dupla CO2 diffuser instead of the small flower pot. Most recently, a pair of Rams I bought last weekend at YHE FF, spawned in my 3 ftr with about 100 eggs & counting and, have noticed I 've now got a pair of A. gibbiceps ( Unintentionally ) showing spawning behaviour & colour. Hence, I think it's more of the water parametres & tank setting that affects their spawning behaviour. Just my 2 cts worth.
