Putting CO2 Diffuser/Reactor in sump tank

Hi all,

First time using tank with sump.

Thinking of feeding co2 into planted tank by placing either a diffuser or reactor driven by powerhead in the last chamber of the sump tank. Is this advisable?

Also, would there be any difference (in terms of effectiveness) if I place cooler fan blowing across the sump or across the tank? (tank is 5ft, sump is 3ft)

Trying to keep as much equipment hidden as possible.

IMHO, planted tanks with sumps are not advisible!
Cos the CO2 will escape when you water is filtered through the sump!
However, in your case, you might wanna consider a external reactor driven by your pump in the last chamber of your sump!
This way ensures more CO2 enter the tank!
My for the cooling fans, they should be mounted onto your tank directly!

increased surface turbulance will cause more co2 to escape. minimizing surface turbulance will help to minimize this. you can have planted tank with sump but you should take care to minimize surface turbulance.

your cooling fans should be placed on your tank as this allows air movement. however, if you sump tank is not placed in a cabinet, you can place the cooling fans there.

Thanks both for your replies. Yes I am aware that sump system will result in higher co2 loss, I guess it's a trade off, in terms of easier maintenance.

So putting cooler fan blowing on the sump is a bad idea lah... thanks.
