I bought 2 packs of frozen worms recently for the tetras. However, the worms seem to be too large for them and i ended up having to vacumm my subtrate. Any advise from the experts who are feeding tetras frozen worms?
There will be no more deaths after the holocaust. Of course, having 3 fishes in my 400L tank helps.
yo bro. me have been feeding mine but no problem. notice sometime different brand BW have different size. if happen your is too big and tetra too small. maybe you can place a cube inside a small cup , deflost , use small scissor rendomly snip and cut them up than feed your tetra lor.
i did try that before on smaller fishesit works for me

I also just brought the rainbow brand today and they my cardinal, congo, yamato, bristle nose, whip tail cat and cory all feed like a pig... I defrost in a cup then feed them with tweezer.
i just throw the block in when frozen, then all the fish get thier fair share it's gone in minutes.

hi all.. i think there is size diffent in the worm.. should be hikari brand..that is what i heard from farm..
thats a good comment and yes there are different sizes the largest are called jokers, they are sold to our fishermen over here.

Started feeding my tetras with frozen blood worms, i just pop the whole cube in, and let it defrost while they attack it.
But most of the time, a large part of the worms will sink to the bottom. This would make most of the tetras "hunt" for them at the substrate level, and some are better hunters that others.
Emperor tetras are really good at it, i believe they use their sight, as compare to sinking flake food, those give off stronger odour and is easiler found.
for me i put the cube in the net first and let it run over the tap till they defrost than i feed to my fish..
reason for doing this is to wash away the blood mixed with the worm..

I heard about this today from an aquarium shop hours ago and I read the posts here.
My experience: Go for the more expensive frozen bloodwroms. The cheaper type generally has fat worm and the same fish that likes frozen bloodworm will reject those fat ones.
I have been using hikari for years now.. Some time early last year the quality drops and big fat bloodworm started to get included. I provide feedback to the Japanese at the hikari counter during the Aquarama (and they rewarded me with lots of freebies) and they told me they will trigger an inspection of their China manufacturer.
I just bought myself a pack of hikari frozen BW from C328 today and the quality is good as what I expects it to be. I also tried the rainbow brand.. very good quality too.
But I thought there are more than 1 type of Hikari bloodworm out there on the market. There has been some discussion on this in AQ, I think.

How do you guys see bloodworms? Is it the same way as you view treats to a dog?

I don't think it's a treat.... Or should I say depending on what fish you are talking about. From what I know, bloodworms as compared to dry food are better if you are trying to get your fish ready for breeding. So don't think it's a treat. Bettas for example will love bloodworms.
I have been feeding my Tetras (Many kinds) with the micro pellets from Aquadene for the past 1.5 years, all Tetras have been very healthy till date. And they really love this dried food.Originally Posted by sage08

Today is my first time feeding my tetras with frozen hikari bloodworm.
Man, they LOVE IT! They ate as if they haven't been eating for days!
I put 2 cubes of bloodworm and now only half a cube left at the bottom of the tank.
