I'm basically quite lazy with mess up canister filter so thinking of getting a custom tank size of 2x1.5x1.5 with IOS . What would be a good size for the IOS to be housed inside the tank ?

Any pro and cons of IOS filter system? I'm a newbie so almost everything is new to me. Any comments are welcome

Pros: (compare against External Canister Filter)

    1. can add chemical and fert directly into the IOS
    2. can clean easily, no need to prime the filter like the external
    3. no danger of leakage and flood your house
    4. Low replacement cost, just need to replace the water pump
    5. can place unsightly water conditioner like peat or ketapang leaf in the IOS
    6. can hide Co2 diffuser in the IOS, near the water pump, pump helps to spread the Co2
    7. no unsightly inlet and outlet tube to the external filter.
    8. Lower cost
    9. Can place fan over the IOS, so no disturbance, or ripple on the main tank
    10. no need extra cabinet space to keep the filter like the External.
    11. its hidden and concealed in the main tank, just neat.

I believe they are many more
I just like it...and I am using one tank like this.

Some say the IOS splashing inlet will remove the CO2 from the water, I would say it depends how you design the inlet, you can design in such a way that the inlet water reservoir level at high position such that the water flow in gently over a small height difference.

Thanks for the very informative response. I have decide to go with IOS system. What's the recommended high for the inlet so that water flow in gently ? I have to tell the tank maker for it.

Any difference if i place the inlet closer to the front or the back of the tank ?

Sorry, not really into IOS design, mine is a BOYU all in one CUBE thank. with build in light, fan, IOS and cover, 15x15inch. This model also comes in 18x18inch. There is only one such tank in th emarket, there are many other brand but all using the same OEM tank with their company sticker.

Mind just happen to be not splashing, I think the key is, do not allow the water to fall from great height to avoid splashing. Usually the water flow into the IOS at the maximum height, so the control would be the water level of the IOS in the first compartment, if the water is low, the water will fall through a great height and splash. What I did is to put in more bio foam/spounge in the first compartment, then the water in the first compartment will rise up. Then it wouldn't be splashing.

Hi Eric, where did you buy your 15x15 tank? And how much did you pay for it? How do you attach the light, since it's neither 1 or 1.5 feet?

    Read my post slowly,
This is a very nice tank for beginers, all in one and low cost. You can do the mathemathics yourself. $Light+$Filter+$Fan+$Tank+$Cover

All the above are built-in with everything nicely covered. Tanks temperature 28°C. It is very commonly named as NANO CUBE by JBJ. Really I don't know who is the original as there are many brand in the market.

I sense that JBJ is the original, because their tank is fitted more nicely and better workmanship, also more light fitted, but also more costly.

Cheapest in town is around $98, but I don't think you can find this price anymore. This shop has extinct, since they charge so low and cannot stay alive. Usually around $150-180. If you are hardworking, you can find around $130.

I will try to load pic later.
If you want to see one, Go to Tampinese Mall, Basement, One new aquarium shop has just moved in. They have the tank in displayed. Nothing much in that shop, but quite a few nice planted tank in display.

Look at BFG reply, he got the pics and the light hood. I saw 15inch and 18inch model, I think there is one more size larger as shown in the BFG link.

What size is that???? Who knows?
Please note that JBJ price range is much higher.. different from what I quoted.

The IOS is at the back of the tank
