    Hi guys,

I'm sure you guys are already aware, but for those who missed it.

There is a new publication out by DATZ, called South American Dwarf Cichlids, which is published by Ulmer Verlag (same publisher for the German magazine, DATZ). This is a great book for identifying dwarf cichlids, which we all know can be confusing. In case you are wondering, this book is in both German & English (translated by Mike Wise).

Each fish is pictured with short notes on other names, type locality, distribution, degree of breeding difficulty, and also short comments where possible. Photos are comparable with most European publication and in some cases, even the Japanese ones. This will be the most up to date English/German publication on Dwarf Cichlids. Like the pleco edition, this book also has the sections on ecology, maintenance, basic breeding, and important references published after 2002 (This is suppose to be a good companion to Koslowski’s 2002 Apisto book). Similar to the pleco edition and in the style of Aqualog, the book contains pictures of:

243 different species and distinct forms of Apistogramma.
    1 species of Apistogrammoides
    1 species of Taeniacara
    3 species of Mikrogeophagus
3 species & distinct forms of Biotoecus
    2 species of Crenicara
5 species & distinct forms of Dicrossus
    1 species of Mazarunia
1 species of an undescribed genus, the Red Patwa
9 species & distinct forms of Nannacara
    6 species of Laetacara

The Apistogramma section is arranged by species-complexes, so that closely related species are grouped together and can be compared easily. For the scientist/serious hobbyists (e.g. Choy!!), there is a phylogeny (family tree) for apistos based on DNA studies! The German "A" numbering (similar to the Pleco's L numbering) is also included. Priced at €25 (about $55 before shipping), it should be an attractive offer.

I'm thinking of getting the book. Anyone else interested? Cost will probably be around S$55 plus S$10 postage.

    Cheers,
