cherry, zebra, blue, green, tiger, bumble bee shrimps all can breed in FW. You wanna start breeding shrimps, make sure tank got no large fish to reduce possibility of fish eating the shrimplets

although I do find malayans breeding in my tank.

a lot lah, the young appears in wave, every few weeks you will start to see a lot of young shrimps appearing, then they get less and less but you will see some adults left behind.

this is in a tank heavily planted with hairgrass (meaning the grass is so thick they're thicker than hair) so plenty of place for them to hide, but there are also all sorts of fishes in there plus horseface loach too.

most of the babies are malayan and cherry. the rest don't breed so readily.

Did you see them in larvae stage? I heard about there is a species of shrimp that look like Malayan, found in Malaysia that is higher breeder form.

no lah, my eyesight not that good. plus they only appear when they are sizeable about 5mm size. remember the hairgrass is VERY thick. see…

but my malayans have very very small eggs, I'm surprised they breed too. right now in my bare tank there are a wave of pregnant females again, they start as dark grey green, then start to turn to yellow/orange.

Wow! How do you get the hairgrass to get that thick?? Nice... If mine gets that thick, I can have cherries in the tank liao with no worries of over-predation...

Yup, my tank's malayan also breed in waves. I can see a few pregnant females almost all the times. The young ones would hide in the hair grass. Like what choy said, I only start seeing them when they are about 5mm... and you have to really look very closely. My hair grass is not as lush as choy's but they still find hiding places. Maybe the gravel colour helps camouflage them...
    Cheers,
    Joe

If they are like Yamato, born in larva form, the size is very small, it look like a balloon in the air, free floating around, I guess the thick hair grass provide a safe heaven for them to hide. BTW, choy, do u use CO2?

I'm sure all Singapore boys know:
    I pee last night
    I pee the night before
I pee and I pee like I never pee before.

to digress from the shrimps a bit, actually I just planted them fairly closely, then just pump CO2 aggressively with 108W for 2½ft tank. they just grow and grow loh. then I trim every 6 months or so, trim meaning cut all the way to the ground macam mow lawn like that. but you know HG their growing bud is in the substrate mah, so with the new found freedom, they will SPROUT again siaz.

Simon recommended me to use a comb to tidy the HG, problem was that by then they are so thick the comb can't even get in. hahah.

Of course I qualify... I am a '14 year old teenager', remember? Anyway, I dun understand the verse mah... That makes me younger eh?...

Ok, ok... Thanks for the HG tip... Hope mine will grow well...

Back to the shrimp topic... I also saw a small malayan some time ago when I had never added any new shrimps... So, malayan shrimps breed in freshwater too...
