i read that the water should be extremely acidic.
Hi all Discus (Heckel) keeper.
I am getting a couple of wild heckel, I had them before but they didin't last very long. They got skinier everyday until they died, other discus in the same tank were fine even breeding.
I like to know if any of you have Heckel for more than 1 year, what water parameter you keep them in and what do you feed them. I am going to keep mine in a 150 litres (75x45x45 cm) tank with 1 or 2 small ancistrus. It has an amazon sword in a pot and the bottom is bare. The filter is Eheim 2228.
Can anybody give me some advise please.
i read that the water should be extremely acidic.
best ard PH 6.8, think yr previous heckel suffering from internal parasite.. change water frequently and feed them more protein food will make them grow faster
not sure if they've been with me for more than a yr
but at least 6mths
no problem with them getting skinnier and skinnier, but the forehead is never as thick as those of manbred discus and tefe green discus
pH is 5.8 in day
night haven't tested
I read the discus magazine from aquarama (1992 ?) about wild discus. They think as long as the kh is very low they'll okay. I am working on the water to get the kh very low, how can I do this without reverse osmosis? Now I'll have to look for the fish, here in Perth wild Heckel only available maybe twice a year.
singapore water is very soft
as for reducing kh when your water is hard . . . . . .
