    Hi guys,

I plan to convert my DIY CO2 tank to non CO2 tank.
The question is : other than remove my DIY CO2, should I do any "water treatment" such as water change, dose more/less fert during this changing...?
    Reduce light also?
My tank is 2ft, 72 gal, light 2x18 PL, using small internal JEBO sponge filter.

My tank infested by algaes before, you just name it, hair algae, BBA, green beard, staghorn, all gathered there...
I've removed sooo many bunch of plants because of the algaes.
Now still some algaes on some plants, & some on driftwood too.

That's why I'm worry if I done something wrong during the change to non CO2 tank, the algae will bloom again...

The idea why I want to change to non CO2, because I want to stay away from unstable CO2 which cause algae bloom, therefore I just go to non CO2 tank...

    Waiting for your advices guys...

I can't tell what will happen, but for me I'll do a big water change and less ferts. Your light level sounds fine for a 2ft non-CO2.

Don't do water changes, just top ups. Keep the water flowing and cool, and feed fish sparingly.

Reading up the Tom Barr Non-CO2 method helps a lot too.

Another alternative is to change to cylinder CO2!

You have to remove as much algae as you can because the algae will not die when you go low tech. They grow slower but so do the plants.

I'd remove all infected leaves, scrape the glass clean, siphon away any algae infected gravel (Treat with peroxide or bleach), scrub clean the driftwood etc. Do a 80-90% water change, and then you're ready for the Non-CO2 phase.

During the transition, I had algae growth on surface leaves as the plants hibernate to get acclimatised to new surroundings. I added yamato and they were very effective, able to eat up all the algae since they grow slower under low tech.

Since I was using ADA aquasoil with powersand, I didn't dose any ferts.
    Warm regards,

maybe you might want to cut down to one x 18 watt light

    Wait, it's 72 gallons...

What are the dimensions of your tank?

Throw away those algae infested plants if possible. Get rid of the algae on the driftwoods and siphon those algae infested gravels. PLANT HEAVILY and put in some floating plants or hornwort. Change about 50% water. Wash your filter. Get a fan to lower the temperature and monitor the tank's progress.

Sorry... I meant 72 ltr, so it should be 19 gallons...
    Dimensions : 60cm x 40cm x 30cm (Nisso tank)
    I guess 2 x 18w lighting still ok...?
I already have 2 fans currently on the hood of the tank, so temp is around 26C.
Now the weather cool enough so tank temp reaches 24C.

Btw tks for the advices guys... !

36W is alright, it's a good mid range value.

tom gave some guidelines on dosing at 1/3 strength of ferts for his low tech, it might be useful to check it up.

Everything from fert to lighting has to be cut down. WC has to be increased though.

on the contrary, i did a swap from co2 to non co2 and didn't have to increase my water changes. in fact, water changes have vastly reduced due to the nature of low-tech tanks. i did a 50% water change on the day i did the downgrade (cut lights to 1/2, removed co2 totally, totally stopped ferts) during my scheduled EI water change and thereafter have only done 20-30% water changes every month or so. no algae infestations after 2-3 months of switch

why would water change frequency have to be increased?

the purpose of low tech is to decrease the amount of light.co2.ferts as well as water changes.
